At Alma Swim Foundation, we’re more than a nonprofit — we’re building a legacy for water resilience. Too often, conversations about swimming in Black communities stop short of action. We step in to bridge that gap, ensuring children and families experience just how fun and safe swimming can be.
54% of Americans can’t swim or don’t have basic swimming skills
Over 4,000 people lose their lives to drowning every year
Black children are 7x more likely to drown than white children
It takes 8 weeks or 20 hours of lessons for someone to feel safe and confident in the water
Average costs to teach someone to swim is $300
